5 Creative Micro-Projects You Can Build in a Single Weekend
Small browser-based projects that teach real design and coding skills without the commitment of a full application. I keep a list of micro-projects that I build when I want to learn a new technique without committing to a full application. These projects take a weekend each, teach something specific, and produce something usable. Over the past year I have built all five of these, and each one taught me more than I expected from something so small. 1. A Mood Color Picker I built a color picker that maps emotional words to color palettes. You type a word like calm or energetic, and the tool returns a five-color palette supposedly matching that mood. The interesting part was not the color theory but designing the interaction. I learned how to build a search-as-you-type interface with debounced input, which I now use in production applications. The color mapping was hand-curated based on color psychology references, which meant a lot of manual data entry. That tedium taught me to structure data files cleanly from the start rather than scrambling to reorganize them later. 2. More guides are on the Draw Perfect Blog.
